J1 Services
This is a list of resources to help get you to San Francisco,
and to get you settled in and established once you arrive.
|
You can easily contact any of the San Francisco
Bay Area's seventeen GAA clubs directly through the club
contacts page. You can also have a browse through the clubs
page to see which clubs may be suitable for you. Most clubs
will help you to find work and affordable accomodation when you
arrive, so you can find somewhere cheaper to live than whatever
motel you'll be staying in at first.
|
|
Usit, a commercial travel agent specialising in
student travel, has a good
online resource with all the latest information about the J1
visa programme, what it is, and how it works.
|
|
While your club will probably be your main point
of contact, the Irish Immigration Pastoral Center is another great
source of support for people arriving in town. They can point you
in the right direction with regard to visas, accomodation and employment.
They also have a drop-in center where you will find friendly and
supportive staff and volunteers who provide a "home base"
for immigrants. At the Drop-In Center you can ask immigration and
citizenship questions, get service referrals, check out job and
housing listings, find out what social events are happening, share
concerns, and make useful contacts with other immigrants.
