Two San Francisco Delegates Elected to North American Board

The 2006 GAA North American Convention took place at the Irish Cultural Center in Boston last month at the end of a long and dramatic year for the association. Following the mud-drenched playoffs in Philadelphia and much wrangling over a disciplinary matter arising from them, the NACB was ready for a change and an injection of new blood.

Two San Francisco delegates were elected onto the new board. Veteran Western Division Vice-Chair Liam Moloney was elected unopposed to the position of North American Vice-Chair. After serving for five years as Western Division Chairman, Malachy Higgins ascended to the post of North American Treasurer after a very comfortable election victory over Chris Knightly from San Jose. San Francisco's representation on the board has never been stronger.

Also joining the board from Boston was Joe Lydon taking the secretary's job. Outgoing Secretary Eamonn Kelly reverted back to his old post of PRO, while Tom Dolan (Chicago) remained in the Chair, Michael Dermody (Atlanta) remained Registrar, and Mike O'Connor (Boston) remained Youth Officer.

Outgoing PRO Eamonn Gormley declined to run again citing other commitments in the Western Division and having achieved most of what he set out to achieve during the year, but recommended that the NACB form an IT committee to streamline communications and the registration process, and he offered his services in that area.

There was a respectable turnout from the San Francisco clubs and the Western Division Board passes along its thanks to those who made the trip.
