Treacys let it slip at the end

Young Irelanders 2-08
Sean Treacys 1-11

Eddie Earls for the Y.I.’s tied this game up with virtually the last kick of the game with a well taken goal which he slotted away beyond the advancing Howie Hughes in the Teacys goal. The Y.I.’s used their get of jail card in this tie to salvage a point. Young Irelanders never reached the heights of the previous weeks performance against the Cusacks as the absence of John McCornmack was a huge loss to the Y.I.’s in the middle of the park. The Treacys had good performances from the excellent John Cullinane (0-4), Pat Tanney (0-2), Ken Hyland (1-0), Howie Hughes (0-1, 45m) and Bosco Hughes (0-2). Young Irelanders had good performances from Colin Harte (0-2), Eddie Earls (2-2), P.J.Parr (1-4).

Sarsfields off to a flyer

Sarsfields 5-11
Shannon Rangers 2-08

A goal feast by the Sarsfields forward division ensured a comfortable win for them in their opening game of the year against the Rangers. Paul Murnaghan, Shane Connolly, Shane Coyle, John McVeigh and Seamus McCorry were the chief scorers on the day for Sarsfields. Shane Kenny in particular had an outstanding game in midfield for the Sarsfields. Rangers were best served by Paul Caulfield, Ben Niland and Gilbert O’Sullivan-until he went off injured.

Saoirse off and running in first Senior game

Saoirse 5-13
Fog City Harps 1-4

Saoirse gained revenge for their recent St. Patricks Day Cup Final defeat at the hands of Fog City in the first round of the Senior championship. The Harps never really got going in this game as they allowed Kathleen Murray to score freely all afternoon. Kathleen ended up with a personal tally of 3-4. Other stars for Saoirse on the day were Sarah O’Malley who was excellent in goals, Christiana Clarke at full back, midfielder Whitney Sutak (0-3), Paula Byrne (0-1) at half forward, Maura Guiney (2-0), Anne Morrissey (0-4), Tracy Lynch (0-1) Triona Dolphin (0-1). Fog City Harps: Fiona Cullen (1-0), Karen Togher (0-2), Ashling Bryant (0-2).

Celts crash to second defeat

Sarsfields 4-05
Celts 1-09

Sarsfields juniors proved that goals are important in setting up a win even if you are outplayed for much of the game. Sarsfields put four beyond Colm Walsh in the Celts goal as Sean Hanrahan, Eamon Kerley, John Fahey and Mike Heinz each collected a goal each. Sarsfields scorers: John Fahey (1-2), Eamon Kerley (1-2) and Mike Heinz (1-1). Celts scorers: Kevin Power (1-4), Aidan O’Flynn (0-3) and Jimmy Flynn (0-2).

Cusacks finish strongly to see off Ulster

Michael Cusacks 2-16
Ulster 0-12

The Michael Cusacks got back to winning ways with a merited win over Ulster in Round 2 of the Championship. The introduction of Owen McCarthy in the second half spurred on the Cusacks to victory as he chipped in with 3 points. Cusacks corner forward Martin Ferris was a constant thorn in the side of Ulster as he was central to a lot of what the Cusacks did right on the day. Seamus O’Gara had another excellent performance for the Cusacks, while Eugene Brolly, Padraig Geohegan and Colm Cafferty also played well.
Ulster were best served by target man Fergal McMahon in the full forward line, Mike Collins and Declan rafferty in midfield, while Terry Keenan and Brendan McCafferty did well in defence. Scorers: Michael Cusacks: Seamus O’Gara (0-9), Martin Ferris (1-1), Kenneth O’Neill (1-0), Padriag Geohegan (0-1), David Rolls (0-1), and Owen McCarthy (0-3). Ulster: Fergal McMahon (0-6), Mike Collins (0-2), Cahir McHugh (0-2), Ryan Cawley (0-1), Gerry Doyle (0-1).
