Saoirse 3-10
Fog City Harps 1-04
Round 2 of the San Francisco St. Patrick's Day Cup competition
took place at an overcast Beach Chalet, on Sunday 18th April with four
games down for decision.
Early visitors to the games on Sunday saw the Fog City Harp lady footballers
take on perennial powerhouse Na Cailíní Saoirse. A close
first half saw just 4 points between the sides at the interval (1-6 to
1-2). Anne Morrissey (Saoirse) chipped in with (0-5), Barbara Dornseif
(0-1) and debutant player Whitney Sutak (1-0) chalking up her first score
in competive action. A penalty miss midway through the first half by Fog
City taken by goalie Sarah Hudson was a costly miss for the City girls.
Karen Togher arguably the best Fog City player on display had a goal and
point at the interval with Aisling Bryant adding the other minor.
On the changeover Saoirse overran Fog City holding their opponents to
just two points in the second half. Saoirse's Kathleen Murray scored (2-1)
in the second half with Anne Morrissey once again showing great form in
front of goals adding 3 more points to seal victory. A double save from
substitute Saoirse goalie Sarah O'Malley ten minutes into the second half
effective killed off the Fog City challenge and set the stage for the
second half rout. Tish Campbell (0-1) and Aisling Bryant (0-1) rounded
out the scoring for the City girls.
Apart from the Murray, Morrissey, Sutak and Dornseif,
Christiana Clark, Irene Byrne, and Paula Byrne played well for the victors.
Tish Campbell showed once again why she is one of the best lady footballers
in the city with a fine individual display. Karen Togher tried in vain
to pull Fog City back in the game with some piercing runs through the
Saoirse defence in the second half but it was never going to be easy for
Fog City with Murray and Morrissey on fire for Saoirse. In the end a deserved
win for the Peninsula girls.

Séan Treacys off to a flyer
Séan
Treacys 5-17
St. Brendans 1-03
This could very well be the year that the Séan Treacy’s make
the breakthrough in San Francisco and win a championship as indicated
by their early form in the St.Patrick's Day Cup. They are off to a flyer
this season with an abundance of talent throughout the squad of players
Manager Paddy Keaney has assembled. Treacy’s even had to luxury
of leaving Alan Coughlan and Micheal Keaveney out of the starting 13.
The highlight of this game was the scoring exploits of speed merchant
half forward Ken Hyland. Ken netted a personal tally of 3-3 and now sits
on top of the scoring charts within the division. Others to impress for
Treacy’s were Howie Hughes (1-3), Cathal Hennessey (1-2), Colin
White (0-2) and former Ulster player Bosco Hughes (0-2) all played well
in the forward division. The Brendans will have learned a valuable lesson
from this game, in that they will have to take their scoring chances when
they arise. Apart Aidan O’Sullivan and Fergal Cleary the Brendans
lacked any other threat upfront all afternoon. Missing a number of regulars
the Brendans will feel that the scoreline certainly did not reflect their
effort over the 50 mins.
Séan Treacy’s: Micheal
Glennon, Myles Fitzpatrick, Ken Hyland (3-3), Howie Hughes (1-3), Cathal
Hennessey (1-2), Colin White (0-2), Bosco Hughes (0-2).
Subs used: Kieran Keaney (0-1), Alan Mahon (0-2), Alan Coughlan, Micheal
Keaveney
St. Brendans: Brendan Dooley, Shane
Corban, James O’Neill, Paul Coffey, Conor O’Farrell, Fergal
Cleary (0-1), Aidan O’Sullivan (1-2), Paul Gilmore, Sean Mockler,
Brian Conn, Paul Hogan, Pat Fitzgerald, John Smiley, Michael Costello.

Ború win with ease
Sons of Ború 2-15
Celts 1-09
The Ború began their season with a nine point win over the Celts
in what was a lack luster game of football until the Celts made a game
of it after half time. The Celts stormed back into contention with a flurry
of unanswered points shortly after halftime to pull themselves within
a few points of the Ború. After the early second half scare the
Ború stepped up a gear and coasted home in the end. Mick Cunningham,
Kevin O’Reilly, and Sean Shannon were best for the Ború on
the day. There will be tougher games ahead for the Ború as the
season gets underway and they should not get carried away with this win.
The Celts relied on Jimmy and Aidan O’Flynn again
in this encounter to do most of the scoring in this contest and will have
to regroup in time for the championship. It looks like they will fail
to qualify for the latter stages of the St. Patricks Day Cup following
two successive defeats.
Sons of Ború; Casey Handy (1-1),
Billy Fogarty, Andy Fogarty, Kevin Murray, Mick Kenny, Brendan Hall, Berty
Penny, Brian Reilly, Sean Shannon (0-3), Kevin Reilly (0-4), Mick Cunningham
(1-7), T.J. O’Sullivan (0-1).
Celtics; Colm Walsh, Neil Hunt, James
Silva, Dennis DeBattista, Jimmy Flynn (1-3), Aidan O’Flynn (0-2),
Sean Simth, Daniel Bello, Brian Guiney, Joe O’Reilly (0-1), Brendan
Robinson (0-1),

Ulster too strong for Cusacks
Ulster
A 2-11
Michael Cusacks 0-06
A depleted Michael Cusack’s came up against in form Ulster “A”in
the final game of the day last Sunday at Beach Chalet. Mark McKenna returned
to action for Ulster at midfield and he quickly set the stage for the
win two early points. Sharpshooters Cawley, Cudden and Heinz were all
early scorers in this encounter despite the efforts of Ali Downey, O’Donnell
and Martin Ferris in the Cusacks defence. Sean McCann, Austin McKenna
and Paul Bayly finished off the Cusacks with multiple scores in the second
half for a very comfortable win in the end for Ulster who were afforded
the luxury of resting some of their best performers in the second half.
Seamus O’Gara was the shining light for the Cusacks as he battled
bravely from midfield accounting for 0-5 of the Cusacks total score of
0-6. The Cusacks will need to have everybody available for their crunch
game with the Séan Treacys this weekend.
