Football and Hurling Championship Results
Saoirse Speed Through Fog Saoirse held most of the posession in this ladies' challenge game between their senior team and Fog City's juniors. The peninsula team had a much tighter defence in the backs, but a bit of wayward shooting in front of the goals, particularly a penalty kickied wide by Anne Morrisey, gave them a half time lead at 1-2 to 0-3 that didn't fully reflect their control of the game. Fog City rallied in the latter part of the second half and came to within two points of taking the lead back. A Fog City ball fired into the box by Rosie Carew bounced off the fist of goalkeeper Barbera Dorseif and into the net for a goal that lifted the game to a new level, but Saoirse were still the superior team. The winning margin of eight points would have been a lot wider but for Fog's goalkeeper Minnie Ingersol playing an absolute blinder in the goalmouth and working overtime to return manys a dangerous looking ball back down the field. However, the fact that she was given so much work to do in the first place was a sign of a Saoirse senior team playing very much at their own level. Referee - Malachy Higgins
Match report from the hurling will be added in the next few days.
