Fog City Take Junior B Honours
Ladies’ Junior B Football Championship
Fog City Harps 2-7 Clan na Gael 2-2
It was a scrappy and low-scoring first half but Clan
na Gael were able to sneak through and take the odd shot at goal, mostly
thanks to Esther O’Connor either taking shots of her own or setting
her team-mates up for theirs.
A Fog City point by Catherine Torres was the result of
a shot taken from the edge of the box and came very close to being a three-pointer,
but it was followed soon after by a high ball dropped into the box to
be fired into the Clan na Gael goal by Frannie Downing.
In the early part of the second half, the middle of the
field was a busy place with little movement towards either end of the
field. A bit of life was injected into the game with a second Fog City
goal by Aisling O’Flynn from a penalty.
Clan na Gael fought back bravely though, and eventually
got a goal by Triona Vaughn with a clinically delivered ball slipping
past the keeper’s fingers and into the net. A second Clan na Gael
goal by Nichol Baxter lifted the team’s spirits some more, and put
a respectable look on the final scoreline.
This end to to the ladies’ Junior B championship
was a lot more entertaining than the beginning. Fog City’s dominance
was never really in question, but there was a noticeable improvement in
Clan na Gael’s game, and there now exists a team of players who
know a lot more about the game now than they did a few months ago.

Saoirse Escape Elimination
Ladies' Junior Football Championship
Saoirse 0-11 Clan na Gael 1-6
Clan
na Gael had the upper hand for the most part but the number of frees being
given away was a major concern, and was handing a lot of opportunities
to Saoirse until the game settled down. Saoirse began to take control
by doing a better job of contesting the ball and following it up with
accurate shooting. The Clans managed to lose the lead, but got it back
by getting three points from frees in contrast to Saoirse who were getting
most of their scores from play.
Clan na Gael began the second half two points ahead,
but Saoirse were now equipped with a tail wind and resumed their accurate
shooting. Clan na Gael seemed a little bit rattled and resumed the careless
fouling of the first half as the Saoirse points started coming thick and
fast.
Clan
na Gael’s Olive Ennis took a shot at the goal, bouncing off the
keeper’s hands and on to the boot of one Esther O’Connor who
promptly dispatched it into the net to take the Clans back to within a
point of their opponents. Now it was Saoirse that was giving frees away,
but the opportunities that this presented were not enough to do any damage.
A last gasp attempt to win with one of the last kicks of the game by Connie
McNamara ended up going wide, and Saoirse carried the day.
