No Separating Celts and YIs Mens Junior Football Championship
Celts 1-8 Young Irelanders 1-8 The Celts defiantly pushed behind enemy lines for much of the first half with tough defending by YIs keeping them at bay. Just as the youngsters crept into the lead, a loose ball floating around in their goalmouth seemed to stay there for a few long seconds in a perilously exposed position until YIs got a boot to it and planted it in the net to level the score for the first of many times during this very even game. In the twentieth minute, a ball bouncing off the YIs’ posts rebounded into the box seemingly out of range of anyone only to see a young fist being stuck out to punch it into the net for one of the most intelligently taken goals of the season so far. It wasn’t all textbook play by the Celts, however. Many careless balls were mercilessly punished by YI who were able to capitalise on these mistakes and run the ball up the field to take a shot. The second half, beginning with the sides level at 1-2 to 1-2, was characterised by a lot of up and down play on the field with every single point by the Celts being met by another from the Young Irelanders. The end result was a very fair reflection of the match. Referee: Emmet Minagh, Ulster
