Treacy's and Boru Force Semi-Final Replay
Mens Junior Football Championship Semi-Final
Sean Treacy's 1-10 (13) Boru 3-4 (13)

It was a stark enough first ten minutes with little inspirational football going on, that was until Boru’s Pat Magee got through to close range and fired a shot at the net that skipped off the fingertips of the keeper and into the goal. With the game well and truly brought to life, Sean Treacy’s rose to the challenge and soon sent a high ball into the box that landed in the Boru keeper’s hands. He fumbled a little, stumbled back over the line with the ball to give away the second goal of the day.

Later, there was a little bit of drama with an off-the-ball incident that threatened to get a little bit out of hand, but it was resolved and dealt with without the issuing of cards. As time wore on Boru proved to be very good at penetrating deep to within goal-scoring range, but Sean Treacy’s had some strong backs on hand to see them off.

Treacy’s began the second half leading by 1-5 to 1-2, and they continued to surge. They made a fatal error with a dangerously sloppy hand pass across the front of their own goal line, and Boru were only too happy to punish the mistake by sticking out a foot and taking the handy goal. A third Boru goal from a deflection off the hands of Treacy’s keeper Liam Head put them a point in the lead for the first time.

Some tempers began to fray with a fair amount of pulling and dragging going on. Sean Treacy’s were applying most of the pressure, but the times when Boru did get the ball were very high quality bits of play that again took them to within close range of the Treacy’s goals.

The sides were level with a minute to go. Boru won a sideline ball, sent it in from on high, and it was punched off the goalie’s hands and over the bar for what looked like a match winner. With injury time ticking away, Sean Treacy’s won a fourteen yard free to be taken from a fairly tight angle on the edge of the field. It was promptly converted for the equaliser in this dramatic game. A replay was scheduled for Wednesday at 6pm at Boxer Stadium.

Referee: Liam Reidy, Sarsfield's

Boru Eliminated from Senior Competition
Senior Football Championship Semi Final
Ulster 1-14 Sons of Boru 0-6

It was an intense if low-scoring first twenty minutes of this semi-final, the low score reflecting strong defending at both ends of the field. Many of the scores that were being taken were coming from impressively tight angles. It was steady pressure and consistently accurate shooting that pushed Ulster into the lead, but Boru never lost heart and clawed their way back to a one point deficit by half time.

The second half began very even at first, and frustration crept in as tempers were lost and there was an incident on the field that required the attention of all club and board officials to get it resolved with a sending-off for each team and the game restarted. When play did resume, both teams showed very good possession with high quality passing and few if any mistakes. Ulster were just that bit stronger and fitter, and bolstered by the towering presence of Dan Gordon and Kevin Hughes, they prevented Boru from getting all but one score in the second half.

Boru were seven points behind when their goalie, Bertie Penny, found himself attempting to clear the ball from the fourteen only to be dispossessed and have the ball kicked past him by Kevin Brady to trickle gently along the ground and slowly roll into the open net. It put the seal on the game and there was no coming back from that for Boru.

Referee: Frankie Keenan, Sean Treacy's
