Hurling Championship Result
Na Fianna Win to Set Up an Exciting Final The first ten minutes of this game were scrappy enough with low scoring and a lot of play stranded on the ground as players struggled to get the ball lifted and into action. Na Fianna were making better progress, and prevented Naomh Padraig from getting a score until a quarter of the way through the game. That said, the men in green were putting in some nice rear guard actions to clear the ball from the full backs under heavy pressure. Leading by a point, Na Fianna began the second half by going on a rampage, winning almost every breaking ball and sending a lot of them over the bar. Naomh Padraig’s first score in the second half came after ten minutes in the form of a goal by John Brady. Tempers soon began to run short with a bit of pushing and shoving off the ball that looked perilously close to getting out of control, but thankfully things cooled down and play was allowed to continue. A defining moment was reached when a low ball whipped along the ground by Tom Carroll went into the net for a Na Fianna goal that put plenty of daylight between themselves and their opponents. Naomh Padraig never let down their guard and showed more of the same top notch defending, but hurling matches are never won by defence alone. Referee: Kieran Keenan, Ulster
