Narrow Escape for Cusack’s
Cusack's 0-11 Sons of Boru 1-7
Men's Football

A goal early in the second half by Andy Fogarty looked like it was going to be enough to get Boru underway and turn around the slim lead that Cusack’s had been maintaining throughout the first half. However, there just wasn’t enough in the tank and Cusack’s got off lightly with a one-point win.

Goals Aplenty
Naomh Padraig 3-17 Sean Treacy's 2-9
Men's Football

Either team could have led this game at half time if the accuracy had been any better. Naomh Padraig came tantalisingly close to equalising a few times but kicked two infuriating wides. It was a Naomh Padraig goal and a period of tit-fot-tat point scoring that sent the Peninsula team in a point ahead at half-time.

Naomh Padraig were on top for all of the second half, although Sean Treacy’s rose to the challenge and managed to get a few points back.

All Square
Boru 3-7 (16) Ulster 2-10 (16)
Men's Junior Football

Tight defending at both ends of the field kept the scoreboard blank for the first twelve minutes of this game in which Boru were doing most of the shooting. The fourth score of the game was a Boru goal by Brendan Walsh, and was followed by a carbon copy goal by the same player a few minutes later.

Ulster built up a bit of momentum in the second half by mopping up a lot of breaking ball and converting it all to scores. A goal put Ulster’s comeback well on its way, and they crept into the lead in the last ten minutes. Boru’s reply was a punched goal, and Ulster replied to that a few minutes later by somehow tunneling through a solid wall of defence in the Boru goalmouth to clinch their second three-pointer and close the gap to zero where it remained to the final whistle.

Young Irelanders Underpowered
Celts 1-14 Young Irelanders 0-9
Men's Junior Football

Celts clearly had the edge, but should have had more than the 2-point lead they had after fifteen minutes of high-speed play. Too many long-range shots were being taken only to fall short into the YI goalie’s hands, and too many others were going wide.

Things soon settled down though, and the YIs trailed by five points at the interval.

YI got up to speed and stayed in the game by fighting hard to keep possession and work the ball up the field to take some crisp looking scores. They hassled the Celts at every turn and forced them to work hard for every point, but the youngsters were able to break away with intense bursts of speed.

A short range goal by Niall O’Flynn opened the Celts’ lead to well beyond the reach of the Young Irelanders who had put up a valiant fight.
